Our method
How do we test betting apps?
We use the phones most readers own. Every app goes on a mid-range Android phone and an iPhone, and we use it through a full live IPL session with our own money. These are the eight things we measure.

Bets placed ball by ball during real IPL matches. Odds have to refresh within 3 seconds of each delivery.
Battery and stability
A full live session on each phone, watching for crashes, slowdowns and battery drain over 30 minutes.
Push alerts

How to install a betting app safely
Download the app only from the operator's own website or the App Store. Fake betting apps passed around on Telegram and WhatsApp are built to steal logins and UPI details, and they look just like the real thing.

Start from the operator's own website
Open the betting site in your phone's browser and find its app page, usually linked in the menu or footer. Never install from a link in a Telegram group, an ad or a message.

Android: download the APK and allow the install
Many betting apps are not on Google Play, so the site offers an APK file. When Android asks, allow installs from your browser for this one file, then switch the setting off again once the app is installed.

iPhone: use the App Store or the mobile site
If the operator has an iOS app, install it from the App Store. If it doesn't, add the mobile site to your home screen from Safari's share menu. It behaves much like an app.

Log in, finish KYC and set limits
Upload your PAN, Aadhaar or passport before you deposit, and set a deposit limit in the account settings straight away.

Make a small UPI deposit first
Pay the minimum amount, place one small bet and request a withdrawal. If the payout arrives on time, you can trust the app with more.
An app that asks for access to your SMS, contacts or screen while you install it is a warning sign. Delete it, change your UPI PIN and report it on the cyber crime helpline, 1930.

Use the app if you bet live on most matches. It refreshes odds faster and alerts you when a wicket falls or a bet settles. If your phone is short on storage or you only bet now and then, the mobile site is enough.

Are betting apps legal in India?
Real-money online betting is banned in India, and the ban covers apps as well as websites. The Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act, 2025 targets operators, advertisers and payment providers rather than players. Banks and UPI apps can still block payments, and if an app refuses to pay you, an Indian court is unlikely to help.
