Reading the price
Indian betting sites show decimal odds. The number is your total return for every ₹1 staked, including the stake, so odds of 4.60 return ₹4.60. Lower odds mean the bookmaker rates the team more likely to win.
Some sites show fractional odds such as 7/2. Add 1 to the fraction to convert it, so 7/2 becomes 4.50.
Cricket odds explained₹100 × 4.60 = ₹460
₹460 − ₹100 = ₹360
100 ÷ 4.60 = 21.7%

Each bookmaker sets its own prices and its own margin. They also hold different amounts of money on each team, and some react faster than others to team news. Checking more than one site before you bet is the simplest way to get more back for the same pick.

What the gap is worth
Delhi Capitals XI at 8.20 instead of 7.50 pays ₹70 more on a ₹100 stake.
The bet and the result are identical, and only the site is different. Across a season of bets, gaps like this add up.
Market movers
The auction and overseas availability set the early prices. Once the season starts, the impact player rule, home conditions and the race for the top four move them. An injury to a key overseas player or a run of early wins or losses can shift a team's title price sharply within a week.
Prices for a new season take shape at the auction. A side that keeps its core and fills its overseas slots well shortens quickly.
Only four overseas players can start, so losing one to injury or international duty hurts. Check who misses part of the season before you back a team.
Since 2023 each side can bring in a substitute who bats or bowls. Sides with deep squads gain the most from it.
A squad built for its own pitch, such as a spin attack at Chepauk, banks points at home that early-season prices can miss.
Only four of ten teams reach the playoffs. Mid-table prices swing hardest in the last two weeks of the league stage.
Outrights
The tournament winner is the biggest. Most sites also price a top-four finish, the Orange Cap for the top run scorer and the Purple Cap for the leading wicket-taker. These markets settle only at the end of the season, so your stake is tied up for about two months.

02
Pays if the team finishes in the top four after the league stage. The odds are shorter than the winner market, but four teams qualify.
Rohan's note: A good fit for strong home sides that travel badly.
03
The season's top run scorer. Openers and number threes face the most balls, so they lead most Orange Cap markets.
Rohan's note: Favour top-order batters whose home ground is a high-scoring one.
04
The season's leading wicket-taker. Only wickets count here, so a death bowler who leaks runs but takes wickets can still win it.
Rohan's note: Check the dead-heat rule, since bowlers often finish level.
Title history
Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians have 5 titles each. 8 different teams have won the IPL since 2008, and Royal Challengers Bengaluru became the latest first-time champions in 2025. Gujarat Titans won the title in their first season in 2022, and Kolkata Knight Riders have three titles, the most recent in 2024.
Past titles don't feed straight into the price. Squads change at every mega auction, so the market weighs this season's eleven over a team's trophy cabinet.

Bookmakers usually price the next season soon after the final. Prices move most around the player auction and in the first two weeks of the new season.
It is the chance of a result that the odds suggest, worked out as 100 divided by the decimal odds. Odds of 5.00 imply 20%. If you rate a team's chances higher than its implied probability, the price may be worth taking.
