CPL betting tips for the Caribbean Premier League

The Caribbean Premier League is the West Indies' T20 franchise league, played across the islands every August and September. Slow pitches, rain and island-hopping travel make it a league where the conditions matter more than the names. This hub covers each ground, the angles we bet on, the key markets and every CPL champion since 2013.

How do CPL grounds affect betting?

A great deal. Providence in Guyana and Queen's Park Oval in Trinidad are slow and suit spin, while Warner Park, Kensington Oval and the Daren Sammy ground in Saint Lucia are better for batting. Read the ground before you look at any runs or sixes line.

Antigua & Barbuda FalconsSir Vivian Richards StadiumAntiguaSlowOften slow, with the ball holding in the pitch. Patient batting and spin tend to do well.

Our angles

What do we look for before a CPL bet?

The pitch and the forecast come before the team sheet. After that we look at how far each side has travelled, because a team on its third island in a few days often starts slowly.

Slow pitches favour spin

Grounds in Guyana and Trinidad tend to grip and turn. Spinners' wicket markets and lower first-innings totals are worth a look there.

Rain and DLS

Shortened games add variance. When heavy rain is forecast we lean towards underdogs and away from big totals lines.

Travel schedule

Teams island-hop through the season. Sides playing their third game in a few days on a new island often start slowly.

Markets

Which CPL betting markets are worth using?

Match winner is the main market. Total sixes and first-innings runs reward bettors who know the ground, and top bowler suits the spin-friendly venues.

Match winner

Check the forecast first. A rain-shortened game narrows the gap between favourite and underdog.

Total sixes

Warner Park and Kensington Oval push it up. Slow decks in Guyana and Trinidad pull it down.

First-innings runs

Set the line against the ground, not the teams. Par at Providence is well below par at Warner Park.

Top bowler

On turning pitches, a frontline spinner bowling four overs is the natural first pick.

Method of first dismissal

Caught is the default. On slow surfaces, stumped and LBW shorten as spinners bowl earlier.

CPL vs IPL

How is CPL betting different from the IPL?

The CPL is smaller and slower. Pitches grip more, rain interrupts more often and many matches start in the early hours in India. The IPL is bigger, plays on flatter pitches and has deeper betting markets.

Questions about CPL betting

What readers ask most about the Caribbean Premier League, its grounds, the weather and the law in India.

When is the CPL played?

The Caribbean Premier League usually runs from August into September. The 2026 season started on 7 August and the final was played on 20 September at Kensington Oval in Barbados.

Who won CPL 2026?

Antigua & Barbuda Falcons, for the first time. They beat Jamaica Kingsmen by eight wickets in the final, chasing 171 with 20 balls to spare. Shadab Khan was named Player of the Series.

Which team has won the most CPL titles?

Trinbago Knight Riders, with five titles: 2015 (as Trinidad & Tobago Red Steel), 2017, 2018, 2020 and 2025. Jamaica Tallawahs are next with three.

How many teams play in the CPL?

Seven from 2026, when Jamaica Kingsmen joined the six existing franchises: Antigua & Barbuda Falcons, Barbados Tridents, Guyana Amazon Warriors, St Kitts & Nevis Patriots, Saint Lucia Kings and Trinbago Knight Riders.

How does rain affect CPL betting?

Rain is common in the Caribbean in August and September, and shortened matches are decided by DLS. Fewer overs add variance, which helps the underdog and makes big totals lines riskier.

What time do CPL matches start in India?

The host islands are nine and a half hours behind India, and Jamaica ten and a half. An evening start in the Caribbean falls in the early hours of the morning in IST, while afternoon games start in the Indian evening.

Which CPL ground is best for spin?

Providence Stadium in Guyana, followed by Queen's Park Oval in Trinidad. Both tend to be slow and give spinners grip, so lower totals and spinners' wicket markets are worth a look there.

Is CPL betting legal in India?

Not online for real money. The Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act, 2025 bans online money games across India, which covers betting on the CPL. Free prediction games with no money at stake are allowed.
