What decides how many runs come in the powerplay?
Work through it in order: the pitch, the opening batters, the new-ball bowlers, the conditions, the venue and finally the toss. A hard pitch with two attacking openers points to over. A seaming pitch with a swing bowler on top points to under.
- Openers who strike above 150 in T20 push the line up. Anchors who build an innings pull it down.
- Bowlers who swing the new ball do the most damage here. Raw pace without movement often goes for runs.
- Overcast skies help swing. High-altitude grounds help the ball carry.
- A small target in a chase can mean a calm start. A big one forces risk from ball one.
